On Saturday June, 15 2013 Bert and I went on an evening walk, leaving the kids with my mom who had been in town about 1 1/2 weeks. We were not sure how long my mom should stay since baby bean #3 was taking it's time. Thursday night there was a huge storm that blew through and a limb shattered the driver's side of my mom's windshield. She was going to leave Friday morning. This act of God postponed her departure until Monday, thankfully allowing her to be here for the birth of George on Saturday. On the walk, I started having contractions, but I have had irregular contractions for about 2 weeks. When they became more intense and regular, we headed to the hospital.
I was 4-5 cm and 80%. The doctor encouraged me to go on and get my epidural and I am thankful for her advice. It was the best epidural I have ever had and allowed Bert and me to relax. He watched a movie and napped and I layed there feeling more comfortable than I had in weeks. Our nurse came in a few hours later and said she saw some head compression on a computer monitor. She checked me and I was 9 1/2 cm and she said "don't push" , she was going to call the doctor.
The doctor arrived and after about 5-6 contractions George was born at 5:35 a.m on Sunday June 16. He had the cord wrapped around his neck twice, so he was a little stunned when he came out, but he was perfect! 7 lbs. 3 oz. and 21 inches long. The nurse detected some jaundice as we were leaving the hospital the next day. After a lab test and a pediatrician appointment on Tuesday, all was declared well.
He eats every two hours and sleeps most of the time and we change diapers. That is what life looks like right now. His first outing was the pool on Thursday, then Alive after 5 at 5 days old. He is such a trooper.
Right now he sleeps in the pack in play in our room, but I am about to transfer him to his crib.
Ellie loves to show him off to everyone and Will loves to give him kisses.
Bert has been indispensable. He takes over at 7 p.m. so I can rest until 9 and sometimes on a car ride if George is not especially too sleepy. While off from work, he took Will to the zoo and the kids to the pool. They loved having him home everyday. Me too;)
We are so grateful for a safe delivery and healthy, precious baby boy.
